CDE, ProMet to supply small Indian processors
Engineers from CDE Global and ProMet have signed an agreement aimed at enhancing options available to smaller iron-ore processors in India requiring beneficiation systems.

The focus will be on developing a new suite of beneficiation plants for processors requiring capacities of up to 2.4 million tonnes per year and who are not served by current plant offerings. CDE Asia managing director, Manish Bhartia, said that these small and medium sized processors had been overlooked so far by current industry suppliers. “The agreement we have signed with ProMet Engineers will allow for both companies to bring together their individual expertise to create new, innovative processing systems for the iron ore industry,” he added.
CDE identified a gap in the market following experience gained in recent years designing and delivering turnkey iron ore washing plants to steel producers in India. “The expansion of our offering to include full beneficiation is the next logical step as we seek to expand our market coverage in India,” explained Mr Bhartia.
For many small to medium sized steel producers there are significant benefits to be had from introducing a full beneficiation plant, but the level of investment needed to make such a system fully operational is a significant barrier.
According to Mr Bhartia, CDE’s washing plants deliver efficiency improvements thanks to lower silica and alumina levels and subsequent increase in Fe content.
“The development of this new suite of beneficiation plants will give smaller operators the opportunity to further improve efficiencies within their processing operations and enhance their capability to grow,” he added.
ProMet Engineers was equally enthusiastic as it seeks to grow its coverage in India. The company has significant experience working in the Australian and African markets through its offices in Perth and Cape Town. Lately it has been devoting considerable efforts to building a project portfolio in the Indian market. “We can count some of the largest iron ore processing companies in the world among our customers,” explained the chairman of ProMet Engineers, Jim Cribbes. “Given this experience and the levels of iron ore available in India it is a market that is of significant interest to us. The new agreement with CDE will allow us to marry our process engineering expertise in iron ore with CDE’s capability in the delivery of turnkey mineral processing projects.”
In addition to the processing of iron ore, ProMet Engineers has worked on coal and non-ferrous processing systems including gold, nickel, silver, zinc and lead.
“This agreement with ProMet in India is the first stage of a process that will allow both companies to take advantage of the opportunities that exist for our systems on an international level,” said the chairman of CDE Global, Tony Convery.
That sentiment was echoed by ProMet Engineers managing director, David Glynn, who said: “The ProMet Engineers CDE partnership moves us both closer to our long term strategic objectives. The significance of this development is not only for both of our companies but in terms of the enhanced product offer it creates for mineral processing companies in India.”
