CDE Global launches third generation Rotomax logwasher

CDE Global has launched its third generation Rotomax RX150 logwasher. The company said the new system offers increased levels of attrition to a range of materials as a result of a number of new design features.

The third generation Rotomax RX150. The unit will be displayed at the International Mining Machinery Exhibition in India this November.

A significant new development with the Rotomax RX150 comes from the construction and arrangement of the shafts and paddles within the unit. The paddles are constructed from high chrome cast iron, the same specification of material used in impactor crushers. This exceeds the specification of paddles within other logwashers available on the global market.

“The specification of this high chrome cast iron for the Rotomax paddles ensures material within the system is subjected to the highest possible levels of attrition, while also ensuring maximum resistance to abrasion,” explained CDE’s senior design engineer on the new Rotomax unit, Kevin Vallelly.

Tests conducted on various materials by CDE engineers found the high chrome cast iron also represented the lowest cost per tonne processed.

"Other logwashers use a lower specification material for the paddles, which leads to much higher wear, creating significantly higher maintenance costs as they need to be replaced much more frequently,” continued Mr Vallelly.

Another design innovation within the new Rotomax system is the fan arrangement of the paddles on each of the shafts. Each paddle is off-set from the previous one and they are configured in such a way that the blades intermesh with each other as the shafts rotate.

According to CDE, in addition to maximum attrition of the material within the system the third generation Rotomax also offers a new level of protection to the shafts, bearings and gearbox due to the subsequent reduction in intermittent shock loads.

“The fan arrangement of the paddles on the shafts ensures a consistent load on the bearings rather than intermittent high impact between all the paddles and the material being processed,” said Mr Vallelly.

“The new Rotomax has been built with the twin objectives of maximising attrition and minimising cost of ownership for operators requiring a system such as this,” he concluded.

The Rotomax RX150 has a capacity of 150 tonnes per hour and can be applied in the processing of a variety of materials including sand and gravel, crushed rock, construction and demolition waste material as well as various mineral ores.

The new system is already operational on a number of projects including two construction and demolition waste recycling projects in England: Grundy & Co Excavations in Widnes and Jacksons in Preston.

In addition to this, the RX80 model has been successfully introduced to a project processing clay-bound waste from crushing processes at Gleeson Quarries in Ireland.

Two of the new Rotomax RX150 logwashers are also in operation on an iron ore washing project for Mineral Enterprise Ltd in Bangalore, India. The heavy attrition of the iron ore particles is effectively removing plastic contamination from the surface of the iron ore, thus increasing the Fe value. The direct result of this is greater efficiencies in the steel manufacturing process.

Mr Vallelly also said the capacity of the new Rotomax models was beyond question. “There are many systems out there whose claims regarding capacity have been proven to be greatly overstated in on-site trials resulting in problems with blockages during processing,” he continued.

Rotomax logwashers have been used on washing projects within the quarrying and construction and demolition waste recycling sectors since the first generation was released in 2003. Rotomax is a dual shaft system driven by a single motor, drive and gearbox ensuring lower ongoing maintenance costs, maximum attrition of materials within the system and easy synchronisation of the gears.

CDE will display the new Rotomax RX150 logwasher at the International Mining Machinery Exhibition in Kolkata, India, this November.
